The OC of Bhulli Police Station in Thakurgaon claims, "I handed over the accused," while the OC of Sadar Police Station says, "I did not receive any accused."
Daily Bijoy News, Thakurgaon Correspondent:
New questions have arisen regarding the role of the police in Thakurgaon. The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bhulli Police Station, Saiful Islam Sarkar, claims that he handed over a detained accused to the Sadar Police Station. However, the OC of Sadar Police Station, Shahidur Rahman, states that they did not receive any such accused. This incident has sparked widespread concern among the public regarding the transparency and accountability of the police.
Last Thursday (February 20) around 1 PM, Mohammad Ali, the organizational secretary of Awami League in Auliapur Union, Thakurgaon Sadar Upazila, was detained by the Bhulli Police Station.
On Friday night at around 11:30 PM, Bhulli Police Station OC Saiful Islam Sarkar informed that the detained individual had been handed over to the Sadar Police Station at 2 PM that day. However, on the same night at 11:40 PM, Sadar Police Station OC Shahidur Rahman clearly stated, "Bhulli Police Station has not handed over any accused to us. We have not detained anyone like this."
When questioned about the OC of Bhulli Police Station, he directed the conversation to a person named Arif, who became aggressive and abruptly ended the phone call when asked about the matter. These contradictory statements have raised questions in the public's mind—where did the accused go?
When contacted for comment, Thakurgaon District Police Superintendent Sheikh Zahidul Islam said, "I am aware of the matter. I am looking into it after speaking with the OC." However, despite the passage of considerable time, he did not provide any further comments. The mysterious silence of Police Superintendent Sheikh Zahidul Islam has added to the confusion.
According to confidential sources, Mohammad Ali was indeed taken to the Sadar Police Station, but he was secretly released in exchange for a large sum of money. Similar allegations have been made against the Sadar Police Station in the past.
