Daily Bijoy News, Comilla Correspondent:

I stopped by a bamboo depot on the side of the road and spoke with its owner. Bamboo is one of the oldest plants in our country and serves various purposes. It is found in many rural areas across the country—there is hardly any region where bamboo is unavailable. Visiting villages, you will see many bamboo groves, though their numbers are declining.

Bamboo is used for a variety of tasks. It can be used to build houses, particularly for making pillars. Additionally, bamboo is essential for constructing fences, makeshift shops (Tong), and decorative items, requiring large quantities. Nowadays, with extensive construction work underway, masons buy bamboo in bulk for use in building houses.

In Burichang, Comilla, bamboo is purchased from various areas and transported by truck to major cities, including Dhaka. The price of a single bamboo ranges from 400 to 600 taka.
