"We want to serve Bangladesh, not rule it," says Akhtar Hossain in Pirgacha
Daily Bijoy News Pirgacha (Rangpur) Correspondent:
Akhtar Hossain, Member Secretary of the National Citizen's Party (NCP), said, "We want to serve, not rule, the people of Bangladesh. Politics does not mean enjoying power; politics means working for the welfare of the people." He made these remarks at a roadside assembly held at Swadhinata Chattar in Pirgacha, Rangpur, on Saturday afternoon. Prior to this, activists gathered at the local Shapla Chattar with processions from 9 unions of the upazila to welcome Akhtar Hossain. Later, a large procession marched around the Pirgacha Bazaar and held the roadside assembly at Swadhinata Chattar.
At the assembly, he further stated that more than half a century has passed since independence, but the common people of the country are still deprived of their rightful entitlements and justice. The country's politics is now plagued by corruption and nepotism, which is hindering development.
"The National Citizen's Party is committed to restoring people's voting rights and building a transparent, corruption-free Bangladesh. We want a Bangladesh where the youth will get employment, farmers will get fair prices for their crops, and women can move about safely and with dignity." He called upon the local leaders and activists to stand by the people, remaining united.
Present at that time were District National Citizen's Party (NCP) Joint Coordinator Alomgir Nayan, Upazila Coordinator Abdullah Al Mamun, Joint Coordinators Md. Sharif Uddin, Mijanur Rahman Sana, Ishrat Sharmin Moni, Founding Organizer Fardin Ehsan, and others.
Earlier, Akhtar Hossain arrived by air, visited the grave of Anisur Rahman Laku, Member Secretary of the Rangpur District BNP, and met with his family.
