Anthrax disease spreading in Thakurgaon: Call for caution when buying beef
Daily Bijoy News Thakurgaon Correspondent:
The deadly anthrax disease has spread to various areas of Thakurgaon district. This has caused panic among the general public. Especially, caution regarding the buying and selling of beef has been observed everywhere. Local sources report that the disease, first detected in the Rangpur region, has now spread to Thakurgaon as well. Consequently, business activities at various cattle markets in the district have slowed down. Many farmers and traders are now reluctant to sell cows. Meanwhile, concerned citizens have expressed worry that public health is at risk as meat is being sold indiscriminately in city and village slaughterhouses without proper testing. Officials from the Thakurgaon District Livestock Department stated that anthrax is primarily a bacterial infectious disease that can spread from animals to humans. Therefore, they have advised against slaughtering and consuming meat from infected or suspected animals. The Livestock Department has already intensified vaccination programs in various areas of the district and urged people to be cautious when buying beef.
