Husband arrested for stabbing wife to death in Gobindaganj

Police have arrested the accused husband, Shameem Mia (31), in the case of stabbing his wife Azeda Begum (28) to death in Gobindaganj, Gaibandha. He was arrested from the Charmatha intersection of Gobindaganj municipal town around evening on Sunday (October 26). The arrested Shameem Mia is the son of the late Mafu Fakir of Kanipara (Masta) village, Kamardaha union, Gobindaganj upazila. He worked as an employee at a local hotel. Confirming the matter, Gobindaganj Police Station OC Bulbul Islam said that after the victim's uncle Ashraf Ali filed a murder case at the police station regarding the stabbing death of Azeda Begum, an operation was conducted and the accused Shameem was arrested. He will be sent to jail through the court on Monday morning. Earlier, at noon, Gaibandha Police Superintendent Nishat Angela visited the scene. At that time, she spoke with the deceased Azeda's family, consoled them, and assured them of the accused's swift arrest.

It is mentioned that on October 21 (Tuesday) around 11:00 AM, in a rented house in MP Para of the Gobindaganj municipal area, following a family dispute, her husband Shameem seriously injured his wife Azeda with a sharp knife. After locals rescued her and took her to Gobindaganj Upazila Health Complex, the doctor referred her to Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital. Later, as her condition deteriorated, she died on Saturday (October 25) evening while undergoing treatment. The deceased Azeda Begum was the daughter of the late Raja Mia from Chandpara village, Gobindaganj upazila. She ran her household with her two children—8-year-old Atic and 16-year-old Sonia. She managed the household by working in other people's houses. Family members alleged that Shameem was addicted to drugs and was also involved in mobile phone gambling. These issues often led to arguments in their marital life. On the day of the incident, during an argument, an enraged Shameem stabbed Azeda in the stomach. He then fled after threatening to kill their son.
