In Chirirbandar, a 200-year-old banyan tree fell onto a road and shops at Chadkadanga market, damaging several shops and injuring at least three pedestrians. The incident occurred around 1:00 PM on Thursday, October 30, when the ancient tree standing in Chadkadanga market of Saitara Union suddenly uprooted and collapsed. Several small shops were destroyed, and three pedestrians sustained minor injuries.
Upon receiving the news, personnel from the Fire Service and Civil Defense, along with Palli Bidyut (Rural Electrification) staff, arrived at the scene. They removed the tree from the road and restored the electricity connection.
Faizar Rahman, an employee of Purba Saitara High School, and local resident Nirmal Sarkar stated that the tree was at least 200 years old and used to shade the entire market. The reason for the tree's collapse is not yet known.
Junior Engineer Balram Kundo of Palli Bidyut said that the tree fell onto electric wires, causing a disruption in the power line. They promptly went to the spot, repaired the line, and restored the connection.
