In Patuakhali district, including various upazilas, police stations, villages, and neighborhoods, the sale of hot 'chitoi pitha' (a type of rice cake) with several types of 'bharta' (mashed preparations) begins at street corners in the mild winter evening, with both men and women involved. Since the beginning of the month of Agrahayan, small entrepreneurs have been seen selling these items after their day's work, during their leisure time in the evening. If observed, the small makeshift shops are overflowing with crowds, while some are warming themselves by a fire. According to the small pitha sellers, daily sales vary, but they currently aren't making a profit. They are hopeful that sales will increase as the winter becomes more severe.
