In Comilla's Burichang Upazila, a program to distribute free seeds for various crops and chemical fertilizers for the Rabi season among small and marginal farmers and farmers affected by floods has been inaugurated, aiming to increase food production. The program was inaugurated by the chief guest, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md. Tanvir Hossain, on Wednesday afternoon (November 19), in an event organized by the Upazila Agriculture Extension Department. It was presided over by Upazila Agriculture Officer Afrina Akter. Also present were Upazila Agriculture Extension Officer Md. Atiqur Rahman, President of Burichang Press Club Kazi Khorshed Alam, Sub-Assistant Agriculture Officers, and beneficiary farmers.

Under the incentive program, seeds will be distributed in phases to farmers: high-yielding Boro rice to 550 farmers, hybrid Boro rice to 650 farmers, high-yielding Boro rice to 800 farmers and hybrid Boro rice to 200 farmers from the Upazila Parishad's development fund for the 2025-26 fiscal year, maize to 150 farmers, mustard to 100 farmers, onions to 15 farmers, homestead vegetables to 100 farmers, and for field-cultivable hybrid vegetables: sweet pumpkin to 30 farmers, broccoli to 20 farmers, colored cauliflower to 25 farmers, cucumber to 20 farmers, and beetroot to 20 farmers.

In his speech as the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony, UNO Md. Tanvir Hossain said, "This government incentive is to help farmers affected by floods get back on their feet. If farmers survive, the country survives - so the upazila administration will always continue to support farmers in increasing production." The organizers hope that through this program, the affected farmers will receive encouragement and support to restore production in the Rabi season.
