In Homna Upazila of Comilla, health assistants of the Bangladesh Health Assistant Association have observed a work stoppage demanding the implementation of their 6-point demands. Health assistants from various unions of the upazila took part in this program. On Sunday (October 5), as part of the nationwide announced program, members of the Homna Upazila branch of the Bangladesh Health Assistant Association observed this work stoppage at the Homna Upazila Health Complex. Their demands include: resolving salary discrimination, amending the recruitment policy, adding Bachelor's degree and Science as educational qualifications, promotion to the 11th grade through in-service diploma, providing technical status, and providing progressively higher grades in promotions. The health assistants complain that they have been victims of discrimination for a long time, and having received no decision despite long-standing movements for their just demands, they were forced to go on a work stoppage. Compelled, they have started an indefinite work stoppage from October 1, suspending all activities including EPI. They called upon the government to quickly implement the 6-point demands and announced the continuation of the work stoppage until their demands are met. Present at the work stoppage were Homna Upazila Health Assistant Association President Kabir Hossain, Senior Vice-President Md. Mahiuddin, General Secretary Md. Kamruzzaman, Sajeda Begum, and other leaders.
