Media May Face Shutdown for Flattery, Warns Adviser M Sakhawat Hossain Brigadier General (Retd.) M Sakhawat Hossain, Adviser to the Interim Government's Ministry of Home Affairs, warned on Sunday that the media could face shutdown if it engages in flattery.
Speaking to reporters after visiting injured police officers at Rajarbagh Police Hospital at 12:30 p.m., Hossain expressed concerns over the lack of substantive discussion in talk shows and stressed the importance of truthful reporting. He stated, "There is no knowledge-rich discussion in talk shows. Media must present accurate information. A country will falter when the media fails to tell the truth."
Hossain further cautioned, "If you indulge in flattery, you will face a shutdown. I promise you, if the media resorts to flattering, it will be closed." He criticized the media's role during past events, suggesting that if the media had reported the facts, the police wouldn't have been in their current predicament. "The media repeatedly claimed nothing happened, but I saw everything on the BBC," he said.
Hossain also called for accountability, stating, "The former Minister of State for Information is an educated person, yet he labeled students as criminals. These actions should be judged, and media owners should also be held accountable."
