The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court has scheduled a hearing for two leave to appeal petitions filed by BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia on November 10. These petitions challenge the High Court's decision that doubled her five-year prison sentence in the Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case. Justice Md Rezaul Haque, a Chamber Judge of the Appellate Division, set the date on Sunday after Khaleda's lawyer, Kayser Kamal, made the request.

Khaleda submitted her leave to appeal petitions on March 14, 2019, contesting the High Court verdict. In these petitions, the former prime minister has requested that the Supreme Court annul her 10-year sentence. Khaleda was imprisoned on February 8, 2018, after a special court in Dhaka sentenced her to five years in connection with the case. Following an appeal from the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), the High Court increased her sentence to 10 years on October 30. Additionally, the High Court has permitted Khaleda to prepare paper books for another appeal against a lower court judgment that sentenced her to seven years in the Zia Charitable Trust corruption case.
