BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said, "I don't understand what PR is." He made these remarks as the chief guest while addressing a rally organized by the Thakurgaon Sadar Upazila's Garea Union BNP, attended by Hindu community members and women, on Wednesday morning, October 15. The meeting was presided over by Garea BNP President Rezaul Islam Redo Shah. At that time, he further said, "Some are trying to sabotage the election by raising the demand that there will be no election without a plebiscite and PR. We do not want the politics of vengeance. We do not want division between Hindus and Muslims; we all want to live together in peace." The BNP Secretary General said, "The debate over PR will take place in parliament. Issues on which parties agree will be signed into the July Charter. A plebiscite can be held for the remaining differing opinions. For now, let the election proceed, bring stability back to the country."

Speaking about future plans, he said, "We have been in government in the past; we know how to run the state. If BNP is elected, employment will be arranged for one crore people. Each family will be given a family card. The highest priority will be given to the health and education sectors, and special assistance will also be provided to farmers." Regarding the election, he said, "I will cast my vote, I will give it to whoever I wish. Do not divide the country. I want to see a democratic Bangladesh, I want a society filled with brotherhood and harmony. Remember, our symbol is the sheaf of paddy."
