Daily Bijoy News, Comilla Correspondent:

Supporters and local BNP leaders and activists have erupted in anger after Barrister Abdullah Al Mamun was not given the nomination for the Comilla-5 (Burichang-Brahmanpara) seat from the BNP. On Thursday (November 6) afternoon, they took out a protest march in the Syedpur area (adjacent to Nur Mahal) of Burichang Upazila, Comilla, on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway and blocked both sides of the road. The blockade lasted for about half an hour, halting traffic in both directions and creating a nearly 10-kilometer-long traffic jam on the highway. This caused extreme suffering for general passengers and transport drivers. The protesters chanted slogans such as "Barrister Mamun must be given the nomination," "We want youth leadership," and "Burichang-Brahmanpara's demand—Mamun Bhai for MP." They alleged that ignoring Barrister Mamun, a popular and qualified leader who has been working beside the people of the area for a long time, is an unjust decision. Local activists have kept the BNP organized under his leadership, so if he is not given the nomination, the workers will not accept it.

Present at the protest march were former General Secretary of Varella Union BNP and former Assistant Organizing Secretary of Upazila BNP Khorshed Alam Lablu, former Vice President of Upazila BNP Mafizul Islam, member of Varella North Juba Dal Nasir Uddin, former member of Upazila BNP Md. Shah Alam, Khorshed Alam, Organizing Secretary of Comilla South District Tanti Dal Mizanur Rahman, Zakir Hossain, Freedom Fighter Md. Yunus Mia, President of Moynamati Sporting Club Mohammad Abul Azad, General Secretary Sohel Rana, Organizing Secretary Zahirul Haque Mintu, and over a hundred leaders and activists of the local BNP and its associated organizations. After about half an hour of blockade, the protesters left the road following the intervention of the local administration and law enforcement agencies, and traffic movement returned to normal.
