Narsingdi's Civil Surgeon, Dr. Syed Amirul Haque Shamim, has called for caution against rumors concerning the typhoid vaccine. He stated, "Rumors and false propaganda are our biggest obstacles. They disrupt programs and create barriers to development." He made these remarks as the chief guest at a consultative workshop on the typhoid vaccine organized by the District Information Office at the Civil Surgeon's office hall room on Thursday morning, October 9, 2025.
The Civil Surgeon of Narsingdi said that everyone must be aware to prevent rumors and misinformation. He assured that children and adolescents will face no issues from taking the typhoid vaccine. Furthermore, he requested that any information received should be verified before being shared.
In Narsingdi district, the typhoid vaccine will be administered to 615,722 children and adolescents across six upazilas. All children from 9 months of age to under 15 years, and all students from pre-primary to class IX or equivalent, will receive the typhoid vaccine free of cost. Children under two years old will receive a 0.5 ml injection in their thigh muscle, while children over two years will receive it in the upper part of their arm. The typhoid vaccine is extremely important for protecting the health of children and adolescents.
He further stated that according to World Health Organization data from 2019, approximately 9 million people worldwide are affected by typhoid fever each year, of which about 110,000 children die. However, the majority of those affected and who die are residents of South Asia and sub-Saharan Africa. Compared to other countries, the rate of infection for this disease is much higher in Bangladesh. According to a study by the Global Burden of Disease, in 2021, approximately 478,000 people in Bangladesh were affected by typhoid fever, and over 8,000 died, 68% of whom were children.
The event was presided over by Narsingdi's District Information Officer, Md. Waidul Kabir Mollah. Special guests present included the DD of Narsingdi's Islamic Foundation, Md. Yusuf Ali, former President of Narsingdi Press Club, Nibaran Roy, and other journalists.
