Genocide Day is celebrated in Chuknagar bordering Keshavpur
The historic Chuknagar Massacre Day of Dumuria upazila bordering Jessore, Khulna and Satkhira districts was celebrated with due dignity. On Monday (May 20-24), Dumuria upazila administration and various political and socio-cultural organizations of the area celebrated the day through various programs. Among the programs were 53 flower petals sprinkled in Chuknagar Bhadra river by Chuknagar Genocide-71 Smritraksha Parishad and Amara 71 on the occasion of 53 years of independence at 10 am and in memory of the victims of Chuknagar Genocide. Then wreath laying at the memorial monument. First, the Dumuria upazila administration laid wreaths at the monument. After that, various organizations including Khulna Mahanagar Bangabandhu Parishad, Dumuria Upazila Muktijoddha Sangsad, Amara 71, Atlia Union Parishad, Chuknagar Degree College, Chuknagar Divyapalli Secondary School and other organizations laid wreaths at the monument. After the wreath laying, a commemorative meeting was held at Badhyabhoomi Chatur. Chuknagar Genocide-71 president and retired principal of Chuknagar Degree College ABM Shafiqul Islam and moderated by Chuknagar Degree College Principal (Acting) Monirul Islam Brown, Dumuria Upazila Executive Officer Md Al Amin spoke as the chief guest.
Dumuria upazila freedom fighter commander, brave freedom fighter Nurul Islam Manik, brave freedom fighter Abul Kalam Mohiuddin, upazila social service officer Subrata Kumar Roy, Amara 71 coordinator Hilal Faizi, Atlia UP chairman Sheikh Helal Uddin, senior journalist and poet Ibrahim Reza, Samiran Sarkar, Rubel Khan, Shilpi Imrul Chowdhury, Idris Ali, Sheikh Salim Akhter Swapan, Amjad Hossain etc. At 11 o'clock, the leaders and workers of Dumuria Upazila BNP and its affiliated organizations placed wreaths on behalf of former Member of Parliament BNP leader of Khulna-5 Constituency, brave freedom fighter Prof. Dr. Gazi Abdul Haque. Dumuria Upazila BNP Joint Convener Habibur Rahman Habi, Upazila Jubo Dal Convener Lecturer Manjur Rashid, Upazila Chhatra Dal Convener were present. Faisal Chowdhury and others. The speakers said, during the liberation war in 1971, on this day, the Pakistani invading forces shot and killed more than 10,000 innocent people at various places in Chuknagar of Dumuria upazila. They have been discussed in the history of genocide of the world, this is the biggest genocide in the world. Nowhere else in the world did so many people die together in such a short time.
